Jazz, Hip-Hop/Rock and NeoSoul “Get Wind” of These New Releases

Back by popular demand The Scene’s “Get Wind Of” Mixtape  three tracks by Chicago musicians you should add to your iPod. This week we had some serious wind—no Sandy pun intended.

Lili K is a jazz songstress we’ve been telling you about for quite some time now. Lili has been making a lot noise along side some of Chicago’s rising stars this year. However we were beyond excited to see Lili and her partner in amazing musical crime, producer Peter Cottontale who drop the E.P. Metal Petals this week. Here is one of our favorite tracks from the album.

Love, Doubt, Belonging, and Need that’s what Kids These Days front man Vic Mensa says you will find on their new album Traphouse Rock. This seven piece Windy City collective serves up every sound from rock, hip-hop, jazz, and blues on the new record. This band is  a refreshing alternative to some of the drill rhymes and music coming out of Chicago recently. You can download the entire Traphouse Rock album for free here.  Peep our favorite track below

Nylo’s Memories Speak, quietly dropped in the spring and while it largely flew under the radar, those in the know cite it as one of the best projects of the year.

It’s not rap, but if you’re a fan of Aaliyah, The-Dream or Frank Ocean, this is probably something you should check out.  It’s short and sweet, but packs enough punch to let you know this girl has a big career on the horizon. Enjoy her while she’s still a mystery.
