Miami came out to start the second period with a sense of urgency. They were still benefiting from the five minute major that occurred at the end of the first period. Controlling the first five minutes of the period there was a feeling that they would put one in the back of the net.
Notre Dame came back to full strength and turned the tables. At the 12:42 mark in the period, Irish freshman forward Mario Lucia netted the first goal of the game and the first goal ever scored here at historic Soldier Field.
Chances for goals in this game are hard to come by. Lucia’s goal could be the game winner. But despite being ahead, Notre Dame has had some difficulties while on the offensive push. They have suffered from 3 penalties while in the offensive zone. If this continues Miami will seek to take advantage and equalize the game.
Notre Dame leads Miami (OH) 1-0
Should be an exciting final period at Soldier Field.
