We’re heading to Iceland Airwaves! Here’s a cultural preview story produced by Jesse. Follow Columbia students’ journey, which begins October 30, on the Iceland Airwaves 2013 blog.

Literature is BIG in Iceland. So big, in fact, that Icelandic people out-read Americans eight to one. Some, while unconfirmed, even like to say that one in 10 Icelanders will publish a book of their own within their lifetime. But what makes Icelanders so serious about their books? Bryndís Loftsdóttir of the Icelandic Publishers Association gives us the scoop on the Icelandic book market:
