Brett Eldredge Sticks to His Roots with ‘Illinois’

By Rachelle Anna Lee

Delivering a solid sophomore album is not an easy task, especially for a country artist. Brett Eldredge encompasses the idea behind the name of my radio program “Roots & Wings” with the new record, ‘Illinois’. Every track showcases Eldredge’s growth as an artist and how he has earned his wings, yet continues to hold on to his roots.

‘Lose My Mind’, the first catchy Country-Pop Radio single, has skyrocketed to the top of the Country charts and is also accompanied by a must-see music video to fully appreciate the song.

‘Fire’ with it’s catchy vocal run and pop elements is catering to a larger-than-Country audience. ‘You Can’t Stop Me’ (Feat. Thomas Rhett), ‘Going Away For A While’ and ‘Shadow’  also cater to the audience’s ever evolving  Pop/New Country needs, while throwing R&B and Funk elements into the mix.

Lyrically, ‘Wanna Be That Song’, ‘Time Well Spent’,  ‘Drunk On Your Love’, ‘Just A Taste’ ‘Lose It All’ and ‘If You Were My Girl’ satisfy every girl’s wants and needs through ballad-like Country-Pop love songs. It’s a guilty pleasure, I have to admit it!

And finally, the title track, ‘Illinois’ perfectly captures Eldredge’s desire to stay grounded in his roots despite his encounters with fame.

“I come from the heart of the Heartland, where pictures show where the corn grows, in rows and rows of summer greens and winter snows

and it goes on”
