Music festivals are one of the best ways to discover new music and new artists fast. Thanks to the Electric Forest music festival I discovered a whole new world of music I never even knew existed, and that is namely, electro-swing.
Let’s flashback to the mid 30’s. The swing era was in full effect, getting people grooving with up-beat and rhythmic tunes. Women put on their favorite dresses and men definitely dressed to impress. People would go out and dance the night away to some of the happiest music around.
Now fast-forward to the Electric Forest Music Festival last June. Most of the music was electronic based, with some jam bands and rap artists making appearances during that weekend last year. The festival itself had about 7 stages scattered throughout the grounds. The Hangar stage was new and it was one of the most unique stages I have ever been to. You could get your haircut at the old school barber shop, get a “tattoo” at the tattoo parlor, and everyone around the stage was dressed in amazing 30’s costumes. The thing that struck me the most about this particular stage, was the amazing music being played…music, that I had never heard before.
The DJ, on the stage was Chicago native Vourteque, who happened to be dressed like a steam-punk magician and was playing swing music like you’ve never heard before. Every part of my body started moving to the beat and the next thing I know I was lost in the music. Imagine this…all the vocals and beats you expect to hear with 30’s swing music is blasting through the speakers and the next thing you know there is an electro drop that makes you dance even harder.
Electro-swing is the future of electronic music. All ages can find happiness in this music whether it brings them back in time or gives them some enjoyment for the night. Electro-swing.com is a website dedicated to bringing you the best electro-swing music and keeping you up to-date with all the new electro-swing music. Rouge in Chicago hosts an electro-swing night the third Wednesday of every month. Keep your eyes and ears open for this unique music that is sure to blow up this year and don’t forget to head to Electr.
