It is no secret that Chance The Rapper is from Chicago. He uses every opportunity to let the world know where he is from. His nickname is even Lil Chano from 79th.
I first learned about Chance when I moved to Chicago to attend Columbia College. His mixtape, ‘Acid Rap’ was just beginning to get recognition and my freshmen year came to a close after seeing Chance headline Manifest, Columbia’s urban arts festival.
Here is Chance performing one of the hit songs from ‘Acid Rap’ at Manifest 2013:
This Friday, is my last day as a student at Columbia College and the same date of Manifest 2016, so it’s only right that Chance The Rapper is releasing his third mixtape, ‘Chance 3’ on the same day, May 13th. Fans have eagerly waited for this mixtape especially after seeing Chance perform on SNL, The Stephen Colbert Show and learning that it’s Chance that co-wrote not one, but five songs on Kanye West’s latest album. These accomplishments are huge for the 22 year-old independent, unsigned artist.
One thing that I love about Chance, is his love for his fans and for the city. The campaign behind ‘Chance 3’ is that you can order posters much like the album cover on the far right and post it around your city.
You then post the image on a social media site with the hashtag, #Chance3 and #Nameofyourcity and you can win a chance to meet Chance the next time he is in your town!
In the music video for his latest single, ‘Angels’, Chance flies high over the Chicago skyline and rides on top of the el. When I first saw the video, I immediately wondered, ‘Did he really ride on top of the train?’ The answer is yes, he sure did. All while rocking a Chicago White Sox hat. The video closes out with him and featured artist, Saba dancing on the corner of LaSalle and Adams.
