“Pray For Me” – Kendrick Lamar & The Weeknd

The song “Pray For Me” from the Black Panther soundtrack by Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd really has you thinking about the lyrics. It’s one of those songs that makes you look at the bigger picture and feel a deeper feeling then you were expecting. The Weekend and Kendrick Lamar’s collaboration for this song is fantastic. It really couldn’t be any more perfect. Once you listen to the whole song through it makes you think, wow, I need to hear that again.

The song begins with The Weeknd straight up sharing some true feelings. He starts off, “I’m always ready for a war again. Go down that road again. It’s all the same. I’m always ready to take a life again. You know I’ll ride again. It’s all the same.” Then he gets real and starts sharing some true feelings, “Who gon’ pray for me? Take my pain for me? Save my soul for me?” After these few versus it starts to make the listener think, feel and connect to the song on a different level.

It gets even better when Kendrick Lamar pipes in. He goes, “I fight the world, I fight you, I fight myself. I fight God, just tell me how many burdens left. I fight pain and hurricanes, today I wept. I’m tryna fight back tears, flood on my doorsteps. Life a livin’ hell, puddles of blood in the streets.” He doesn’t go full blast here but you can feel the sharp anger in his lyrics. I find that to be pretty powerful!

“Pray For Me” is pretty intense and continues to escalate as the song goes on. It’s powerful words and deeper meaning bring out the best in the lyrics and really make you think. After I heard it for the first time I just sat there and thought about it for a minute. I kept listening to it and would pull out different emotions each time. Such a good song! If you haven’t heard it yet definitely check it out. Get ready to feel some feels!

God’s Plan is TOP of the BILLBOARD HOT 100

God’s plan makes it to the top of the HOT Billboard 100. Way to Go, Drake! I believe this song has earned its place in the bill. The concept of the song itself and the video is different and breaks stereotypes and like that Grape Juice article rightly said, the video tosses the rule book out of the window for a hit single.

Drake has proved that it is not all about the flashy cars, women, million dollar mansions, “ill” effects, that make a video popular but you can gain popularity or be appreciated through simplicity, and these elements are seen in the God’s Plan video. He gives away all of the $996,631.90, which was the budget for the video.

He made everyone a part of the production. The focus was on the community for a change and various people who needed some financial support, and not all about the artist. Through this Hit Single, he definitely touched lived. Drake definitely drove this a different direction.

So inspiring!!!

Three EDM Powerhouses, One Song

Martin Garrix and David Guetta are two of the hottest DJ’s and producers in the music industry at the moment. They both consistently release music that can be enjoyed by wide audiences outside of the fans of House music.

Last year, the two released their collaborative ballad titled “So Far Away.”  Which is not the music one would expect from the two producers, but it was still received well, despite it having a very Martin Garrix-type feeling and sounding vaguely similar to a few of his other slower songs.

But that was 2017. It’s now 2018 and Martin Garrix and David Guetta have teamed up Dutch producer Brooks to release new music! On February 22nd, 2018, they released a blood-pumping track called “Like I Do.”

The track is what you’d expect of a House track but that doesn’t detract from the catchy hooks and easy-to-listen-to quality. Coming from three producers, of course it’s produced well. The natural ebb and flow of the track keeps the listener engaged and excited to hear the rest of the track, while also keeping the body moving.

This is a track that will work well is bars, clubs, festivals, and while working out. It’d be a great piece to listen to in the morning as well since the music inspires you to move and get the blood pumping.

If anyone was wondering what you get when you put three EDM legends together in a studio, this is what you get!
